North Wales Black History NetworkBlack History is our Shared History
Update for Oct 2016: We are still discussing setting up a more formal network under the framework of the Small Charities format provided by the Charities Commission.
The purpose of the network is:
To link together individuals and organisations from the counties across North and Mid Wales to recognise, organise, promote and support the celebration of Black History Month in October and other relevant activities each year
We are doing this by:
Setting up a Steering Group of individuals and organisations who are active in reseaching the links North and Mid Wales have with Black History and to gain funding for setting up and delivering activities in communities with partner organisations across North and Mid Wales, to celebrate Black History Month and relevant activities throughout the year, to enable us to promote better understanding about Black History and our Shared Histories across North and Mid Wales.
Advising, informing and supporting organisations to understand about their responsibility to take action and promote better understanding about Black History and our Shared Histories across North Wales to reduce levels of racism and promote community cohesion and inclusion.
Supporting Race Council Cymru, which is based in Cardiff, to support their aim of providing an All Wales programme of activities for Black History Month and other relevant activities each year.
Researching and developing new projects to tell the stories and celebrate the links between North Wales, Africa and the Caribbean.
