Show Racism the Red Card – Wrexham
Welsh Government and Show Racism the Red Card would like to invite you to an exciting and informative FREE workshop event.
We are pleased to offer school staff a FREE place at ‘Promoting Equality and Tackling Racism in your School’.
The training will provide delegates with a safe, non-judgmental environment to consider:
- the barriers to promoting equality and tackling racism
- how to recognise and respond to racist incidents and
- confusion about terminology relating to ethnicity.
The training will build confidence in talking about potentially difficult issues and will provide practical ways to challenge racism and promote equality in your school.
Open – Why are we here today?
This session will look at the barriers to promoting equality in your school; the myths surrounding equality work and the contemporary context, current legislation and Equality Act duties.
Workshop – Recognising and Responding to Racism
This workshop looks to consider discriminatory attitudes, define a racist/prejudice related incident and proceed to an activity which looks at best practice in responding to racism in school, when dealing with pupils. It will end with tips on how to challenge racism effectively.
Workshop – The Language of Equality
This session asks delegates to reflect on the powerful nature of language in your school and society. A follow up activity will look at appropriate use of terminology relating to ethnicity. It will provide practical advice and guidance on challenging inappropriate language with young people.
Close – Reflections and Questions
This final session gives participants the opportunity to reflect on how and if there practice will change, to discuss anything they found difficult and ask any questions that have not been answered.
